Cowboy Action shooting is the fastest growing sport in the country. Cowboy shooting is the only shooting sport with a dress code. Shooters are dressed like 19th century cowboy figures, for example, Clint Eastwood and John Wayne type characters.
Western shooting is a timed shooting event celebrating Ol'West adventures during the periods of 1865-1899. The shooters are provided directions for completing a series of stages using two six-guns, a pistol caliber lever action rifle, 1887 and 1897 or SxS shotgun. Competitors work together as a posse to time, count misses, ensure safety at the loading and unloading tables, track scores, and cheer for posse members.
Participants choose an alias and wear clothing reminiscent of the time period 1865-1899 or may wear B-Western attire. Clothing can be very simple or as elaborate as determined by the shooter.
We conduct our matches in compliance with the SASS (Single Action Shooting Society) or SASS Mounted Shooters Handbook. They are opened to all interested parties.
Cowboy Action Shooting Information:
• Shoots are on the third Sunday of every month from April through October.
• All SASS (Single Action Shooting Sports) rules apply.
• Registration is from 9AM to 9:30 AM SHARP! Safety meeting is at 9:45 and match shooting starts at 10AM.
• We shoot 5 stages straight through, then gather for a tailgate lunch - potluck style. Bring your own lunch or something to share. Shoot the breeze and enjoy the company of some of the nicest cowboys and cowgirls around, before your trip home.
• If you haven't shot Cowboy Action yet, you're in for a treat! Come watch, come shoot with us, or contact Buckshot at either [email protected] or at (570)-663-3045.
